Online Seminar: How to Build a Quantum Supercomputer - Scaling Challenges and Opportunities

Quantum computing represents a paradigm shift in computation with the potential to revolutionize scientific discovery and technological innovation. This seminar examines the roadmap for constructing quantum supercomputers, emphasizing the integration of quantum processors with traditional high-performance computing (HPC) systems.

The seminar is led by prominent experts Prof. John Martinis (Qolab), Dr. Masoud Mohseni (HPE), and Dr. Yonatan Cohen (Quantum Machines),  who discuss the critical hurdles and opportunities in scaling quantum computing, drawing upon their latest research publication, "How to Build a Quantum Supercomputer: Scaling Challenges and Opportunities". Watch to gain insights into the efficient allocation of quantum workloads, the significance of collaborative initiatives within the quantum computing domain, and the prospective applications of this nascent technology. Our speakers -

  • Prof. John Martinis
    CTO, Qolab
Prof. John Martinis is a distinguished physicist known for his contributions to quantum computing, particularly in the development of superconducting qubits. Throughout his career, he has worked on advancing high-fidelity qubits and scalable quantum processors, helping to push the field forward. As part of his work, he played a leading role in Google’s quantum supremacy experiment (2019), where his team demonstrated a quantum computer solving a problem faster than the best classical supercomputers. Beyond his research, he remains dedicated to mentoring and collaborating with the next generation of scientists and engineers, with the goal of making practical quantum computing a reality.

  • Dr. Yonatan Cohen
    CTO Quantum Machines
Dr. Yonatan Cohen is a physicist, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Quantum Machines, where he serves as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). He completed his Ph.D. at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, focusing on quantum electronics, superconducting-semiconducting devices, and microfabrication. Dr. Cohen is also the co-founder and former managing director of the Weizmann Institute's entrepreneurship program. As CTO, Dr. Cohen plays a pivotal role in shaping Quantum Machines’ core technology and products. His work enables scalable, high-performance quantum computing, advances hybrid quantum-classical architectures, and accelerates the realization of NISQ and fault-tolerant quantum computers. Dr. Cohen has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and is recognized for his contribution to the field of quantum computing.
  • Dr. Masoud Mohseni
    Distinguished Technologist HPE
Dr. Masoud Mohseni is a Distinguished Technologist at Hewlett Packard Labs. He is a co-founder and head of Emergent Machine Intelligence (EMI) which encompasses the HPE Quantum and Physics-Based Gen AI teams. He is leading a consortium for designing and building a quantum supercomputer for large-scale quantum simulations and quantum modeling. Formerly, he led the Quantum Machine Learning team at the Quantum AI Lab at Google and MIT. Masoud led development of hybrid quantum-classical ML software platforms such as TensorFlow Quantum and IsingFlow. He developed seminal quantum algorithms such as Quantum Clustering, Entanglement-Assisted Quantum Tomography, Quantum Principal Component Analysis, and Quantum Support Vector Machine, and Nonlocal Monte Carlo.
